EXTRA ATTACKER NOT ALWAYS THE MAGIC WAND: MKE WAVE FALLS TO SYRACUSE SILVER KNIGHTS

Milwaukee, WI (January 31, 2016) For a while it looked as though a repeat of last night’s thrilling overtime win was in the offing, but in the end Syracuse took advantage of a failed extra attacker tactic to pile on three goals, making for a 9-5 tilt.

The teams were tied at five when Syracuse scored on a power play. The ensuing three unanswered goals came as the Wave pulled their goalie.

The Wave can’t blame fatigue after last night’s long game; Syracuse had also played in the last 24 hours, and the Wave had five fresh pair of legs on the field. On the bright side, Stephan DeRoux scored his first two goals as a Wave.

“We were down 5-2 yesterday against Cedar Rapids, and we started better today, we got the first goal, but before you knew it our defense just sort of fell apart there in the second quarter and we went into the half 5-2,” said Coach Giulano Oliviero. “The players worked extremely hard to bring us to 5-5, and it was a foul on the power play call. Would I have given two minutes in a 5-5 game for that type of foul? Probably not. It is what it is, the referees called it, we still had two minutes to recover, down by a goal – our sixth attacker’s been great all season. We had a chance, but they turned around and scored three goals on us.”
