Your Six-Time Champion MKE Wave dropped game one of the 2015 MASL Ron Newman Cup Central Division Playoff series against the defending PASL Champion Chicago Mustangs, 6-3.
The first half of action was a see-saw battle. When the Wave scored, the Mustangs answered back. #18 Stefan St. Louis scored two unassisted goals and #26 Ian Bennett added another while Chicago’s goals came from former Wave players Hewerton and Matthew Stewart.
"I like what we’re seeing offensively,” said Head Coach Giuiano Oliviero after the first half. “Defensively we have to clean a couple of things up & we’ll be good to go."
Sadly that was not the case. The Mustangs held the Wave scoreless in the second half with goals coming from Hewerton, Efrain “Wilo” Wilson and two goals by Taylor Bond, including an empty net goal against MKE Wave sixth attacker #28 Jonathan Greenfield.
Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero…
…on tonight’s game:
“We played a team tonight that just wanted it a lot more than we did. “I don’t think all of our players realize that this is the playoffs, this is another level and you’ve got to play that much harder in the postseason. We didn’t do that in the second half.”
…on the second half play against Chicago:
“They won every 50/50 ball, they won every tackle, they went in harder than we did and it’s the playoffs. If you don’t play hard in the postseason, you’re not going to go anywhere.”
…on how the team adjusts going into Game two:
“The players don’t feel the best right now, I’m sure they are down, I know as a player I hated this feeling so I’m pretty sure they are going to bounce back." #
