National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) 5k Walk on Saturday, May 17th.

Many of us heard the sad news about a police officer shooting a mentally ill homeless person in Red Arrow Park recently. Thanks to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) we can be part of the solution to this kind of tragic event. NAMI provides special training to police officers in how to handle cases involving mental illness in addition to providing information and support for those with mental illness and their families. The officer in Red Arrow park had no NAMI training.

Milwaukee Police Officer Daniel Reilly supports the NAMI Walk because he was personally able to apply his NAMI training in 2013 when he had to handle a situation very similar to what happened in Red Arrow park. He believes that without the special NAMI training the outcome could well have been tragic. Please join me and Officer Dan in supporting the NAMI Greater Milwaukee Walk, which takes place on Saturday May 17th at the lakefront in Veterans Park. There is no charge although donations to help fund NAMI’s free programming are encouraged. Registration is at 9:30 and the Walk begins at 11. Please click on this link for the Walk to register or make a tax deductible donation- thank you for helping to make a difference! www.namiwalks.org/greatermilwaukee
