Although everything was determined for the MISL Playoffs, the Milwaukee Wave still looked to finish out the regular season on a high note with a victory over the Wichita Wings. They defeated Wichita 8-6 to finish the regular season with a 21-5 record. The win was also their third straight, giving them plenty of momentum heading into the MISL Playoffs against Missouri.

Wichita came out determined to put some points on the board, and they came through late with a goal from #2 Chris Lemons on an assist from #10 Tiguinho, to put Wichita ahead 2-0. Milwaukee’s #26 Ian Bennett continued his hot streak (15^th consecutive game with a point), scoring a goal on a pass from #21 Giuliano Oliviero just before the end of the quarter to tie things at 2-2.

In the second quarter Wichita went up 4-2 when Tiguinho found #19 Daniel Villegas for the score. The Wave tied things back up when team captain #22 Joe Hammes put a beautifully placed ball from #77 Marcio Leite into the net. Wichita regained the lead, going up 6-4, when #4 Andrew Hoxie snuck one past Wave goalkeeper #1 Marcel Feenstra. Bennett found #14 Nick Perera near the goal to tie the game at 6-6 heading into the half.

12 seconds into the third quarter Bennett gave the Wave their first lead of the game at 8-6 on another assist from Leite. That’s all the scoring that would occur and with one final quarter to play Milwaukee was in front 8-6.

Milwaukee’s Feenstra shut out Wichita in the second half, and although the Wave would not end up scoring in the fourth quarter, the team would come out with a victory in the final game of the regular season.

Milwaukee will head on the road to Missouri on Thursday, March 7^th to take on the Comets in the first game of the MISL Playoffs. The Wave returns home on Sunday, March 10^th in the second meeting of the playoff series. Game time is at 3 p.m. $7 tickets are available for the game.
