DEFENDER VICTOR QUIROZ ON MISL TEAM OF THE WEEK

MILWAUKEE (Feb. 25) — Milwaukee Wave defender Victor Quiroz has been named to the Major Indoor Soccer League Team of the Week after a solid weekend performance that included a spectacular goal from his own half.

During Sunday's 15-9 loss to Missouri, Quiroz took advantage of the high advance to midfield by Comets keeper Danny Waltman to score his first 3-point goal of the season. Quiroz won the ball just outside his own yellow line, then fired a line drive from about 150 feet away that landed directly into the Missouri net on the fly. The shot gave Milwaukee a 3-2 advantage; Quiroz also had two shot blocks in the game.

Friday in St. Louis, Quiroz played his usual solid defense as Milwaukee limited the Ambush to nine points in a 20-9 victory.

Quiroz is tied for fifth in the league with 16 assists and is tied for seventh with 27 shot blocks.

Also named to the MISL Team of the Week were Missouri's Lucas Rodriguez, who also is the Player of the Week, Missouri's Leo Gibson, Baltimore's Troy Hernandez and Tony Donatelli, and Syracuse's Antonio Manfut.

Milwaukee ends its regular season this weekend with a doubleheader at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The Wave (15-3) host St. Louis (4-14) at 6 p.m. Saturday, then come back against Missouri (12-6) at 2 p.m. Sunday. Sunday's contest is Fan Appreciation Day, with fans welcomed onto the field following the game to get autographs from and pictures with the entire team. Prizes, including a 50-inch TV from ABC Audio and Video and a Trek bicycle from Wheel & Sprocket, will be given away.
