EXCITING LOCAL COLLEGE SOCCER UPDATE

UW Milwaukee Women’s Soccer team has won the Horizon League Tournament in a thrilling way. After taking a 3-0 victory over Detroit in the semi-finals. The Panthers went on to win the a exciting championship match up with Oakland, 4-3. Kelly Lewers was named the tournament MVP, along with winning the Horizon League Player of the Year.

Milwaukee has earned the automatic qualifier bid for the NCAA Tournament for winning the Horizon Conference Tournament. The Panthers will be making their 11 th appearance in the NCAA Tournament when they face off again the University of Michigan this Saturday, November 16 th at U-M Soccer Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.

Along with the Panthers, the Marquette Golden Eagles Women’s Soccer team has qualified for NCAA Tournament by going undefeated in the Big East on the their way to winning the automatic bid in the Big East Conference Tournament. In the tournament the Golden Eagles defeated St. John’s in the Semifinals 1-0, then went on to beat DePaul 2-0 in the Championship.  

Marquette will be making their sixth straight berth in the NCAA Championships. They will play host to Western Michigan this Friday, November 15 th in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm at Valley Fields.

Men’s Soccer:

UW-Milwaukee Men’s Soccer team begins their quest to capture another Horizon League Tournament Championship this Friday, November, 15 th, at 7 pm. Their opponent will be Oakland in a semifinals match up at Flames Field in Chicago, Ill. The Panthers are the 2-seed in the tournament, which earned hem a first round bye. Milwaukee enters the tournament after posting a 13-2-2 record.

Last time Milwaukee played Oakland, the Panthers won 2-1. Junior Laurie Bell, who won the Horizon League Player of the Year, will lead his team in the postseason with a hope of clinch a berth in the NCAA Championships.

Marquette Men’s Soccer team has captured a share of the Big East title, sharing it with Georgetown. Finishing the season with a 6-2-1 record in conference earned them the 2 seed in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament. The Panthers lost to Georgetown earlier in the season 0-1. The Golden Eagles will be facing Butler in a semifinals match this Friday, November 15 th at 7:30 pm at PPL Park. The winner will advance to the Championship match which will be played on Sunday, November 17 th.

With a chance to advance to the NCAA Tournament by winning the BIG EAST Conference Tournament, the Golden Eagles look to show that they are ready to make a statement in the conference.
