MILWAUKEE WAVE ANNOUNCES DEFENSIVE ADDITIONS TO ROSTER

The Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) has announced the signing of Defenders Victor Quiroz, Philip Surprise and Joseph “Andy” Hackbarth. All have signed 2-year contracts with the Wave.

“We’re very happy to have Victor Quiroz as he’s one of the most experienced defenders in the league,” said Head Coach Keith Tozer. I think it’s wonderful to have a guy with his pedigree playing in the back with us. He brings great technical ability, toughness, and leadership qualities. It’s great to have Victor here, now representing the Latino community. Not only is he going to be great for us on the field but hopefully he’ll be able to influence more of the Latino Community to join the Wave Family.”

Quiroz has made major impacts on every team he has played for. He played for Mexican Futsal and Mexico Beach Soccer National team before moving to the United States. Quiroz competed in the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup recording 1 goal, representing his home nation, Mexico. He comes over to Milwaukee after previously playing for the Wichita Wings last season, where he played in 24 games while scoring 38 points. Quiroz also put up 28 blocked shots. His best performance playing with the Wings was against Milwaukee when he tallied 8-points, in an 18-16 win.

Philip Surprise returns home to Milwaukee where he attended Pius XI High School. Surprise played college soccer at Quinnipiac University from 2009-2012. He tailed 26 career goals while at Quinnipiac, ranking 8thin team goals and points, along with leading his team to their first ever NEC regular season conference championship for the first time in Quinnipiac Men’s Soccer history.

“I’m extremely excited about adding Philip to our roster,” said Head Coach Keith Tozer. “He is very dynamic on both sides of the ball, can shoot with either foot, has tremendous pace and defends very well.”

“This is my home town; this is where I was born,” said Surprise. I grew up a Wave fan, it’s kind of just a dream come true to start my professional career in Milwaukee. The goal for me is to just get on the field, get some points on the board, and help the team out to get to that ultimate goal of winning the championship.”

Joseph “Andy” Hackbarth played college soccer at Yale. He played in 43 career games tailing 6 goals in three seasons. Hackbarth helped anchored the Yale defense for his first three years, before missing his senior year with an injury. During Hackbarth’s first three years at Yale, he received honorable mention and an All-Ivy selection for his defensive play.

“I think Andy will be a good addition”, said Head Coach Keith Tozer, “He gives us some depth in our defense and hopefully he will be able to helps us as the season goes on”.

“The goal is about bringing the championship back to Milwaukee and I think that’s a great goal for us as a team,” said Hackbarth. “For me, I just want to make sure I’m an integral part of this team and doing whatever I can to help out.”
