MILWAUKEE WAVE NAMES NEW HEAD COACH: ASSISTANT COACH
MKE Sports & Entertainment is excited to announce that our Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave Professional Soccer Team has named a new coaching staff in veteran players Giuliano Oliviero and Nick Vorberg.
"This is a very thrilling and proud day for my family and I, and I look forward to the challenge of coaching a team as talented as the Milwaukee Wave,” said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “I have been fortunate enough to be part of three Wave championship teams, and my immediate goal as Head Coach is bringing another title to this storied franchise. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Zimmerman, Sue Black, and the rest of the Wave organization for showing confidence in me as we help lead the Wave into the MASL and a new era of indoor soccer in Milwaukee.”
“These are exciting times for the Wave Organization,“ said Assistant Coach Nick Vorberg. “The vision set forth by Mike Zimmerman and Sue Black of family, working toward goals together and elevating professional soccer in Wisconsin is very intriguing. Also, I am very much looking forward to working for Giuliano, as I have a deep respect for his knowledge and understanding of what it takes to win a championship. As a member of the Wave for the past 10 years, we are truly in great hands!”
“Aside from their great knowledge and experience of the game, Giuliano and Nick love The Wave and our fans with great passion,” said Mike Zimmerman. “As a previous player and assistant coach for the wave Giuliano has earned a unique and elevated level of respect from our players... I found this trait to be extremely compelling when making our decision. Giuls and Nick give us our best chance to win now and we expect that they will lead this club to its full potential."
“Giuliano has had the respect of the community and the players for years,“ said Sue Black. “He will no doubt lead by example and then you add his assistant Nick Vorberg, you have a winning combination. It’s a title wave for the team!”
Major Arena Soccer League play is slated to begin late October of 2014 with 24-teams from across the United States and Mexico. A 2014-15 schedule will be announced in September along with a playoff format. MKE Wave home games will still be played at U.S. Cellular Arena.
