MILWAUKEE WAVE SOCCER KICKS OFF SEASON 42 SUNDAY IN SAN DIEGO.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Friday, December 5, 2025) - After a busy summer filled with camps and community appearances, some transition in the front office and a changing of the guard at Head Coach, your 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave Professional Indoor Soccer Team is chomping at the bit to get season 42 underway Sunday; but they will have to return to a place that holds some bad memories after coming up short in the post season last year; FrontWave Arena in Oceanside, California, home of the San Diego Sockers.
Last season, FrontWave Arena played host for the Ron Newman Cup Playoffs and Championship with all qualifying teams playing in one location. The Wave defeated Kansas City in the opening round, fought back in the second round to force overtime against Mexico and came up a goal short of the championship game.
“That is something we’ve been stewing about as a team all off season,” said Forward Alex Sanchez. “We are definitely using that as fuel to kick off the season but we want to get the job done this year and go all the way. I think we can do it.”
The Wave welcome new head coach Marcio Leite, a longtime club veteran whose championship pedigree and passion for the game promise an exciting season ahead.
“This is a very special moment for me and the organization,” said Leite. “I'm excited to take this team into the future but very aware of its legendary past. I've been around since 2006 and Milwaukee is my home but I have had the privilege of winning a championship and playing for one season for the San Diego Sockers, so it's going to be a special game going back. I’ve won four championships in my career; three with Milwaukee and one with San Diego.”
The San Diego Sockers started their season Black Friday, November 28 with a hard fought 5-4 loss in overtime against the Empire Strykers.
“The main focus of the first three weeks of training was on our brand of soccer; Wave soccer,” added Leite. “And these last few days we're now taking an approach of how San Diego plays and how we're going to play against them. We're excited, we respect them, but we want to go there and try to get a good result.”
Milwaukee Wave at San Diego Sockers, Sunday, December 7 at 5:05pm CT from FrontWave Arena.
