MKE WAVE DROPS FIRST OF THREE IN BALTIMORE SERIES; REMATCH NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT

Your Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave lost their first game at home against long time rival Baltimore Blast Saturday afternoon at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Final score: Milwaukee Wave 5, Baltimore Blast 6.

"This was a very disappointing loss, but we are going to get back on our feet and start preparing for next week," said Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. “We just couldn’t get our legs going in the second half. The great thing is we play them two more times and control our own destiny.”

The last game the two teams faced each other was in the 2017 MASL Eastern Conference Final with Baltimore coming out on top.

Milwaukee Wave defender number 6, Guilherme Veiga, scored his fifth goal of the season thus far with an assist Daniel Chamale in the first quarter.

“When we tied up the game near the end we could feel the energy from the fans and it was really special. It was what we needed,” commented Veiga. “It’s a new mentality and energy for next week’s game. We have to keep our heads down and work even harder during practice.”

The rivals match-up two more times with the rematch next Saturday, February 17th at 7:05 p.m. at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

“Those are going to be the most important games of our season and that is the way we have to treat them,” stated Milwaukee Wave player/coach number 77, Marcio Leite. “I think it is hard, but I know we can do it. We just have to play our game for 60 minutes and four complete quarters.”

With nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Milwaukee Wave defender number 16, Drew Ruggles, and midfielder number 24, Max Ferdinand, collided and both suffered injuries. Both players were assisted off the field by medical staff for further evaluation and didn't return to the game.

“They’re important players and we’re going to need them,” said Leite. “If they’re really injured and can’t play a few games we have a deep enough roster that some guys can step up and play. However, I don’t think there is a player in the entire league that can replace Max Ferdinand.”
