MKE WAVE WIN IN WICHITA COMES AT COST; ASSISTANT COACH / GOALKEEPER NICK VORBERG INJURED

Your Six-Time Champion MKE Wave won a thriller against the Wichita B52’s Saturday night at Hartman Arena in Wichita, Kansas, 14-12.

It was a back and forth game all night. When Wichita scored, the Wave always had a response.  Each team scored 6 goals in the first half, with Wave goals coming from #26 Ian Bennett (2) and one from #10 Luan Oliveira, #23 Victor Quiroz, #77 Marcio Leite and newly traded #4 Corey Adamson. With just over 2 minutes left in the half, goalkeeper Nick Vorberg came off the field with an injury and #28 Jonathan Greenfield would tend goal for the rest of the game.

The Wave scored 8 goals in the second half, 2 from #26 Ian Bennett and #77 Marcio Leite. #15 Tony Walls, #10 Luan Oliveira, #8 Bato Radoncic and #18 Stefan St. Louis each scored a goal each.  Even with goalkeeper Nick Vorberg out for the game; Jonathan Greenfield made many key saves to keep the Wave in the game.

Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero on…
The takeaway from this winning weekend on the road
:

"After our loss to Baltimore, we talked as a team about wanting to run the table all the way through the rest of the season and thru playoffs and getting better at things we need to get better at. I think we are well on our way to doing that. That’s four wins in a row, our longest win streak of the season on top of that, a playoff spot. Overall, a very positive weekend and we are looking forward to returning home to UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena to face Syracuse on Valentine’s Day in front of our fans.”

Assistant Coach / Gooalkeeper Nick Vorberg:

“Nick popped his hamstring in the second quarter. We’ll be very lucky if we get Nick back before the end of the season but we’re down to one great goalie in Jeff Richey and we’re going to have to carry it all the way through.”

On the similarities between the Detriot Waza Flo game where #23 Victor Quiroz stepped in for GK Marcel Feenstra and this game where #28 Jonathon Greenfield stepped in for Nick Vorberg:

“In my 20 years of indoor soccer I’ve never seen two starting goalkeepers go down in one season. It’s very unlucky for us as a team but Jonathon Greenfield stepped up, came up huge and showed a lot of leadership tonight.”

The final two regular season MKE Wave home game at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena are Saturday, February 14th, 1:05pm (CST) vs Syracuse Silver Knights and Saturday, February 21st, 6:05pm (CST) vs Detriot Waza Flo.
