THE RIVALRY RETURNS; WAVE BACK IN KANSAS CITY FOR REMATCH.

By Henry Amini.

MILWAUKEE, WI - The 7-Time Champions Milwaukee Wave will return to Cable Dahmer Arena on Sunday, January 11, to reignite their rivalry with the Kansas City Comets.

The last time the Milwaukee Wave arrived in Kansas City to face the Comets, the game ended in a statement victory with the Wave winning 9-6. This compounded head coach Marcio Leite’s successful beginnings after ending losing streaks at San Diego and Kansas City. The rivalry is set to return, and fire between the two sides has only grown stronger.

“The environment in Kansas City gets you motivated,” said Leite. Having experienced the rivalry throughout his career as a player, Leite is familiar with the Comets’ home field experience. “As a professional player, you want to play in front of a lot of people—even if they’re cheering against you,” he said.

The Milwaukee Wave are returning to action for the first time since their 3-1 home victory against the Empire Strykers on December 31 and they’ll be looking to carry the momentum into Sunday’s game. Their defensive performance was spectacular when playing the Strykers, allowing only one goal. Continued resilience will be crucial when tasked with defeating the Kansas City Comets on the road for the second time this season.

The Milwaukee Wave and the Kansas City Comets continue to fill up the individual league leaderboards, Alex Sanchez in particular holds the highest goals per game average in this competition having scored ten goals in just seven games. Mario Alvarez and Max Ludwig have shown their playmaking abilities this season, each with six assists of their own to accompany Alvarez’s five goals and Ludwig’s four goals.

“Derek [Huffman] has been one of the best targets in the league in the last [few] years, so having him in the lineup, his experience, his hold up play… He’s a guy that’s terrible to defend against,” Leite said. Huffman is set to return from suspension on Sunday, following his red card infraction against the Kansas City Comets the last time they met. His offensive presence will be welcomed by the Milwaukee Wave in what promises to be a thrilling reignition of this rivalry.

The Milwaukee Wave will face the Kansas City Comets at Cable Dahmer Arena in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, January 11, 4:05pm CST.
