WAVE HOST TRAVEL-WEARY ROCHESTER LANCERS

MILWAUKEE (Jan. 9, 2014) — The Milwaukee Wave aim to extend their MISL lead on idle Baltimore this weekend as they host the Rochester Lancers at 6 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Arena during the Wave's 30th Anniversary Alumni Reunion.

The Wave (7-1) rebounded nicely from their only loss of the season with home routs of St. Louis and Syracuse, then came from behind in the fourth quarter last Friday to edge St. Louis on the road 13-11. Marcel Feenstra was the winning keeper in all three matches, allowing just over 8 PPG and keeping his record perfect at 4-0. Carlos Munoz is fourth in the league in scoring with 34 points (5 3PG, 8 2PG, 3A).

Rochester (3-8) is coached by Josh Rife, who played for Milwaukee from 2009-13, winning a pair of championship rings. Two of Rochester’s three victories have come against winless Pennsylvania, but there are signs the Lancers are closing the gap with the rest of the MISL. All of their first four losses were by at least 10 points, but since Jan. 1 they have lost by 2 against Missouri, by 2 at St. Louis on a late 3-point goal, and by 2 in overtime against Missouri.

Gary Boughton (24 points) and Elliot Fauske (22) lead Rochester in scoring. Gavin McInerney has played seven of the 11 games in goal, allowing 11.2 points per game. Former Wave defender JP Rodrigues played in four games but is not listed on today's roster.

The Lancers have endured a rough travel week thanks to the snow and cold that gripped much of the nation. After playing in St. Louis last Saturday, the team was stranded in Chicago and came straight to Milwaukee, training here on Thursday and Friday.

The first 2,500 fans attending the game on Saturday receive an Ian Bennett Bobblehead, courtesy of PCI. The alumni reunion brings players and officials from throughout the Wave's history back to town. An alumni game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday is open to anyone with a ticket for Saturday night's game.
