WAVE, MISSOURI RESUME RIVALRY IN HOME-AND-HOME WEEKEND

MILWAUKEE (Jan. 16, 2014)A growing rivalry between the Missouri Comets and the Milwaukee Wave comes to life this weekend with a home-and-home series, two games less than 24 hours apart, beginning Friday in Independence, MO. Kickoff is at 7:35 p.m. CST; the game will be streamed live at YouTube.com/MISLComets. Saturday's return match is at 6 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Arena. Tickets are available online via Ticketmaster or by calling the Wave office at 414-224-9283.

Milwaukee (8-1) leads the MISL by one game over Baltimore, but it was the Comets (7-4) who handed the Wave their only defeat, 15-6 in Missouri on Dec. 13. Missouri also had the Wave on the ropes in the Nov. 16 season opener, also at the Independence Events Center, but the Wave scored six points in the last 2:55 of regulation to force overtime before Ian Bennett’s fifth goal of the night gave Milwaukee a 23-21 win 8:07 into the extra period.

The Comets feature two of the league’s top three scorers — Vahid Assadpour (2 3PG, 15 2PG, 13 A, 49 P) and Leo Gibson (1 3PG, 13 2PG, 11 A, 40 P). Goalkeeper Danny Waltman is only seventh in the league in points allowed (11.56), but has a history of standing on his head against the Wave, going back to his days with the Detroit Ignition.

Milwaukee’s offense is on a team-record pace, leading the MISL at 17.2 points per game. Five times in nine games, Milwaukee has cracked 20 points. The Wave also is second in points allowed at 9.6. Four of the top 12 scorers in the MISL are from the Wave, led by Carlos Munoz (5 3PG, 10 2PG, 4A, 39P).

Friday’s game, the third of six meetings between the team this year, is the third in Missouri and closes out that portion of the series. In addition to Saturday's game, the Comets also come to Milwaukee Feb. 23 and March 2.

Saturday's game is College Night at the U.S. Cellular Arena; students who show their ID receive $5 off their ticket and 15% off merchandise. In addition, the first 1,000 people at the game receive a voucher for slice of pizza from Ian's Pizza.
