WAVE SOCCER LOOKS TO KEEP WINNING MOMENTUM GOING IN MISSOURI FRIDAY AND SUNDAY.
After a season opening statement win in San Diego last Sunday, the 7-time champion Milwaukee Wave set their sights on two teams that have ramped up the intensity season after season; first the Kansas City Comets Friday, then the St. Louis Ambush Sunday.
“It was a short week for us to prepare,” said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Marcio Leite. “We got back into town Tuesday and a had a quick recovery session; today (Wednesday) we had a small kick around, worked on some small details, things that we had noticed in the last game; cleaned it up and continued recovery. It’s a delicate balance for the team to juggle travel, recovery and training but we’re ready for whatever Kansas City throws at us on Friday.”
While Milwaukee made waves in their opener against the Sockers, the Kansas City Comets are coming off a thrilling overtime win against Utica City FC and are 3-1 on the season so far.
“We're very familiar with the Comets,” said Milwaukee Wave Goalkeeper William Banahene. “They knocked us out of playoffs two years ago, we knocked them out of playoffs last year. I don't remember winning in their place ever as a Wave member, so, you know, we’re really just focused on getting the results done on Friday.”
The last time the Milwaukee Wave won at Cable Dahmer Arena was the shortened pandemic season Friday, February 21, 2019, 7-6 in overtime, before that, Saturday, January 4, 2019, 8-3.
“I think what we proved last weekend is that nothing's impossible with this group,” added Banahene. “We're going to keep breaking barriers. We're going to keep being underdogs and challenging the notion that we have, but we're all excited. We're all ready. The plan's already in place for the weekend for both games and we're just excited to go.”
