MASL SELECTS BANAHENE FOR GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK HONORS.

The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced today that Milwaukee Wave Goalkeeper William Banahene was selected as Goalkeeper of the Week for Week 2 of MASL action.

Banahene held San Diego scoreless in the second half of their dominating 8-4 win over the Sockers Sunday afternoon at FrontWave Arena in Oceanside, California..

“Willie played great,” said Milwaukee Wave Head Coach Marcio Leite. “He was good with his feet, he stepped up when we needed him the most. We always know that we can count on a lot of good saves from Willie.”

Banahene ended his night Sunday with 14 Shots Against, 4 Goals Against and 10 Saves for a .714% Save Percentage. After Sunday’s performance William is ranked 3rd among goalkeepers in the MASL behind Empire’s Brian Orozco and Baltimore’s Julian Rodriguez.

“We had a small celebration on the way home from San Diego after the big win,” said Banahene. “I think it was our first win since 2015 in their place, but it was very adamantly expressed before practice that that was the past and now we're all eyes are on this weekend.”

Wave have a busy weekend ahead of them with a pair of games in Missouri; Friday against Kansas City, Sunday against St. Louis.

“We want to keep going,” exclaimed Banahene. “We still have that chip on the shoulder. I think we're instilling the way Marcio was as a player, that little bit of arrogance, that fire and we're just behind him and following his lead to really focus on getting these results. The plan's already in place for the weekend for both games and we're just excited to go.”
